World Metaphoric
Therapy
We humans are turning more and more inwards into the human-only
world through technology and the beliefs that the human world is the only one world
worth being aware of. This is probably the most serious mistake we are making
right now. As stewards of the environment it is our sacred (connected with all
things) task to care about the earth and protect and nourish Her for future generations
of beings. We are being irresponsible (not responding well) in this duty. It is
an integral part of being human and essential to our happiness and fulfillment.
We living more and more in a phantasy world created by
machines, technology and those whose goals are to manipulate others. Sad but
true. When I see how much young people are plugged into the manufactured
experience of technology instead of being present in their own lives, in the
moment to moment enjoyment of what is; it makes me sad.
World Metaphoric Therapy
(WMT) is a way of reconnecting with mindful living, of being in touch with the
whole self, not just the manufacturing self or the relationship self, but also
with the sacred self of spirituality-connected with all beings in all three
worlds of Gaia: plant, animal and inanimate.
World Metaphoric
Therapy pays attention to the passing of the seasons and inner tasks are
attempted according to what the environment is doing at the same time. This helps
us have a healthy relationship with the earth. Autumn is a time of finishing
old projects, choosing either to work on them and bring them to completion or
to release and let them go. The garden should be asleep, mulched and winter
crops planted by Halloween (Samhain). Autumn is also a time of resolution with
the past and death-hence the rather perverted interpretation of ghoulish images
for Halloween. It is at time to face and resolve and dissolve the fear of death
by understanding that we all die. Autumn is at time to celebrate endings as
well as beginnings. Traditionally, autumn was a time to reflect on our
ancestors and all those who have gone before us and to honour and express gratitude
for their sacrifices.
Try
This!
1.
Write out a list of things that you have been
meaning to do but someone haven’t got to in the past year.
2.
Schedule time to finish each task or let it go. For
example, if you have some fabric in your closet that you’ve been meaning to sew
into something but it’s been there for over a year, either haul it out and
finish the project or give the material away to someone else.
3.
If you have conflicts in relationships, take the
time to send a card or email forgiving the other person. Send them as much love
as you can. Let the conflict go in compassion. It doesn’t have to make sense,
it just has to be forgiven in love. If you have legal tangles that are taking
up your time and energy, give them a date by which they must be resolved and
try to keep to that date. Try to have all conflicts resolved by the winter solstice.
4.
Take time to find pictures of your ancestors.
Make a little shrine to them. Spend some time gazing into their faces and
thanking them for all that they have given you. Don’t dwell on the negatives,
only give thanks for all the positives that you can think of. Send them love.
They will do the same for you.
5.
Spend some time contemplating your own death
(see Death Meditation in previous blogs). Come to a compete acceptance that you
are mortal and you are prepared each day to face your own death. This is the spiritual
way to live with integrity , courage and joy.
Joy in the journey!
