Opening the Self to Who You Truly Are

Last night my husband and I went ‘out’. That is, we attended a film showing in a downtown theatre. The trailer looked good, it was another in a long series of sequels about a sci fi dystopian future. I had high expectations for the film, I had seen the first episodes in the 1970’s and loved them. Luckily it was Cheap Tuesday so our tickets were relatively cheap, but popcorn and root beer was the price of breakfast with coffee. We wanted to support the local movie house. I still love sitting in the dark with a bunch of strangers and enjoying a drama together. It is a way to be together but safely apart. As we muched on our popcorn and sipped the nose bubbled drink, I wondered-how much longer will we able to have civilized gatherings like this, where people know how to behave. No cells phones, no one talking to their friends about trivia, no kids having hissy fits because life isn’t exactly what they were expecting. While we were waiting, I enjoyed a polite sense of ‘we’.

One minute into the film, sent me scrambling for my eye plugs. We aren’t a theatre full of hearing-impaired folks, why the blasting ‘all around sound”? Is the whole world deaf and I didn’t notice? Maybe.

Fifteen minutes into the film, I glanced at my beloved with the look. The ‘I told you so ‘look. Big business nosing out the artsy world of making good films with interesting three-dimensional characters, a plot that is delightfully unexpected, satisfying ending with the good guys winning…again.

Nope! None of that! I estimate that 90% of the film was fighting. Men fighting men, men fighting beasts, men fighting weird extra-terrestrial creatures, men fighting evil machines. That was the entire plot!

Warriors fighting with gruesome hi-tech weapons grunting pithy statements like, ‘Lets burn this place down’ or ‘Lets finish this war’, or just…grunts as they swing their weapons around. You get the picture-ha! Is that where Trump learned his military expertise from?

I sat there, painfully, bored, irritated and slight disgusted.

Halfway through another fight scene, I excused my self from the pornographic violence and used the bathroom. What a relief to be back in human world again. A purple haired young woman plugged into her ear buds was cleaning the toilets. I thanked her and we began a short chat. She was a kid I had taught back in high school. I wanted to communicate that her job was important. I want to let her know without putting it into words, not to bow to capitalist lies that because she was doing a low paying menial work that she was less of a human. To let her know I oppose the oppression that keep the billionaire kings in power. I oppose the wealth distribution of our economic systems that allow point one percentage hogging an obscene portion of the earth while our children and grandchildren watch their future slipping away into end stage disaster capitalism. I oppose the betrayal of our culture that forces young people to be work slaves with less than a living wage, without realistic expectations of enjoying a careful lifestyle that fosters contentment. To let her know, we can do better if we just decide to crawl out of the survival trance we are collectedly engaged in and begin to live our promised lives of creativity, stability, happiness, supportive relationships and peace.

When you live with higher values, then you recognise, we are all interconnected.

Violence to another always results in violence to oneself.

Economic oppression of others results in oppression to oneself…eventually.

Reluctantly, I returned to the dark theatre, the shadows of our dystopia showing off its hungry ghost destruction of healthy human values, joy and magnificent beauty.

When is humanity going to crawl out of our survival violence trance? When are we going to evolve out of the first chakra? There are six other chakras, six other aspects of our beings ready to be experienced and embodied.  I’m ready to graduate from our baby kindergarten for immature boy men.

Sorry Hollywood, I’m just getting bored.

Many of my clients ask me this question. The world is chaotic, crazy and overwhelming. How can I cope?

Here is my contribution to human evolution. I offer techniques that anyone can do to improve their mental health and relationships in our daily lives. I teach methods of how to develop our own inner aspects by developing a more resilient nervous system and clearing embodied systems of trauma memory. If you’re unfamiliar with chakras, then check out the thousands of teachings from millennium that record how to go through the body and clear it from past conditioning, especially the deep ancestral traumas of our difficult human evolution. Granted, we spent thousands of years in conflict, violence and colonization of others’ resources.

But now we can stop.

If there is to be peace on earth, it will come not because we all learn to be nice. Peace on earth will come with the realisation that we all share the same unified field and what we give out, always comes back again. To care for the other is to care for oneself.

Here is one way to bring peace to yourself and the world. Clear your body of biographical, familial and ancestral trauma by conscious clearing of the charkas, starting with the root of the spine where life and death conflicts and challenges are stored.

We can think about chakras as an energetic skin which protects us from the onslaughts of daily life, the bombardment of the demands and needs of others, and inner noise created by unacknowledged experiences. When our charkas are balanced and aligned and most importantly, all functioning, they are semi permeable energetic filters.

Charkas allow us to feel and let in sensations, process those events and give them meaning through processing in the higher four charkas:

Heart will process emotional experiences, throat will process communication, discernment and danger from more subtle threats such as derogating behaviours of others, environments that doesn’t resonance with our highest intentions, in the mid brain is the central processing place where all the data from the first five charkas is balanced, assessed and structured into either ‘incomplete’ which means it will be stored in various parts of the body as trauma, or will be acknowledged and then released…without a trace except subtle evolutionary changes in the subtle body.

For any concern or challenge in your life, you can find a corresponding place within your body, which has a concomitant charka which mirrors the blockages and constraints of the Self. For example, currently much of humanity is in a survival trance, we are feeling constantly under threat. Unless you are living in an area of the world where there are …literally…bombs falling around you, the threat response is probably exaggerated and you are reacting to traces of past unresolved traumas, either from this lifetime, from familial themes or ancestral traumas. All of these memories are stored in the body and in the DNA of each cell.

The good news is that you can clear these blockages with intent, awareness and healing practices from conscious practitioners. There are many ways to clear the charkas, sometimes an intentional walk up a mountain will help to clear past trauma. Recently at a breath work session, I was able to clear blockages in my root charka. I wasn’t aware that there was constriction there, but suddenly I felt a warm opening sensation at the base of my spine.

Ah, there is more opening now to life energy. I will feel less tired now at the end of the day.

I was right. And strangely, my craving for cannabis disappeared. Cannabis was helping me find rest when I exhausted at day’s end. But I noticed that it was making me slothful and I couldn’t remember my dreams. I get so much guidance from my dreams, so I avoid cannabis for this reason.

Here is a transcript which clarifies chakra clearing from a channelled fellowship called The River. They describe themselves as a gathering of beings- some from Gaia, some from the past and some from other dimensions of consciousness. They were channelled through a medium from 1983 until now and are presently accessible to anyone who wishes to connect with them.

You can read more about their methods for more conscious living in my book:

The third River book -All knowledge is within, All knowledge is without will be published in September 2026.

River:  Today we would like to go back to the theme of - All knowledge is within, but in a different way, with an understanding of opening and closing the chakras. Opening the Self to knowledge is opening the Self to who you truly are, and where you fit in the world. Being open is not easy, it is not merely a case of stating: I will be open. By opening, we mean meaning constant awareness and an awareness of awareness in a moment-to-moment continuum. This requires discipline, motivation, and a great deal of inner commitment.

Part of inner commitment is having a structure, a method so one may move step to step, trusting that there is an effective process, and trusting that each step leads to a further step.

It is very important to trust, to know that there is a structure. We will suggest then a structure of opening.

First of all, opening to the inner rhythms of strength, energy and body memory. In the body memories are stored- some of the false myths of past lifetimes, that are structurally stored within the very cells. Therefore, the purpose is to release past life memories so there is more of a connection to reality in this lifetime, in this moment. It is part of the process to clear out and remove these memory traces in the very bones and blood of humanity.

Only then can decisions be being made and actions acted upon in complete freedom of now. Of course, it goes without saying, that memory of all past life events within this very lifetime are stored in a very deep cellular way within the bones and blood of the human body. So, in this way also, a structure of opening and release of the past is important in a very practical lifetime way.

There are two reasons for this clearing, to release false guides from the past lives, and to release memory and emotions stored from this lifetime. We would suggest as a process to spend at least three to six months of day-to-day short meditations where 1 sits quietly and with intent and awareness, focus within the body cavity, situated in the belly area. Visualize this focus radiating up and down.

The next step is to sense the body as being almost empty a cavity. Sit with as empty a mind as possible, allowing only awareness and watching the thoughts that arise, one by one, with attention focused within the body cavity.

When this has become easy and comfortable, easily sunk into relaxation. We think this will take between three and six months. The Step two. From then on, sit down for a few minutes focusing within the inner body cavity watching thought until breath is quiet and allowing the breath to return to the natural state of arising from the lower part of the body. This is not to be forced however, it is always unwise to force breath to change from a higher elevation to a lower elevation. It is a natural thing for the breath to lower when the body is relaxed and thought is allowed to drift across the surface gently.

You will notice that the breath will switch from high in the chest to low in the belly. This is also an indication you are ready for the next step.

At this time, at Step Two, breath which has become lower in the abdomen, will for the first time be asked to come up, into the tightness of the lower throat. It is not so much to control the breath, but to watch the breath go through the nasal passages with the intent of the mind.

Therefore, breath becomes the focus as it passes through, not so much in the nostrils, but on the complete exit of the body. This is a minor fact in a minor stage, but one that should be noted.

Stage two therefore, begins by sitting down quietly, focusing on the body cavity, watching the breath exit. Then the further stage of stage two is focusing the mind on the bottom chakra at the root and gently imagine opening this chakra. It will take some discipline to actually do this, but if it is returned to again and again, there will develop a sense of opening. This sensing of openness will then transform to a sensing of chakra openness in a very specific area at the base of the tailbone.

The opening is to be seen in a right to left, clockwise opening, for energy moves in this area in a clockwise motion (for right-handed people, opposite direction for left dominant people). In other words, it spirals inward through the chakra. It will seem at first a forced opening, and this is not entirely wrong, because it is not something one has done before.

At this point it requires a little fantasy work period in that one imagines the opening. But quickly it will become evident in body sensing that the fantasy has become truth. This will be evident by tingling, movement, heat, some sensitivity that something is happening. At this stage it is important to see the clearing in the mind spontaneously and view it inwardly. Is it locked or not?

If the first image that arises is of something blocking it, identify it! We will not say and, what kind of image may arise, it will be completely individual. But each individual has created blocks in all the chakras, some symbolic, some are protective hatches, like hatches on a boat. But in some form or another, the very fact of being alive, there will be blocks in all the chakras all times to some degree.

There are two reasons for this. 1 survival and they may be the memory traces of past lives. We desire at this point not to clear away the healthy blocks that keep the individual’s energy intact for the daily movement, but to remove the energy of past events that have become an unhealthy tiring of blocking the natural energy flow of energy.

The healthy chakra system is in a constant flux of opening and closing, as the individual needs energy. When a healthy system is blocked totally, like the lungs of a cigarette smoker, the opening and closing of the system has lost its elasticity and may remain closed forever. Not only as in retention, but locked solid by accumulated events, emotions, behaviors of past people, thoughts, and eats.

So, it is well to remember that they the chakras are shutters that open and close on their own when the system is healthy. This process is to ensure there is no impediment from memory. That is why it is first an imagined event and then a reality invent.

Therefore, visualizing the block, whatever form it does take then imagining it removed in whatever manner seems appropriate to the individual. There are many: remove it with fingers, remove it with stones, kicks, blow torches, instruments, removing it removing it imagining in some way which seems in keeping with yourself, gently or harshly, depending on who you are. Remove it!

What you have removed has been a memory, as soon as it has been removed, holding in imaginary hands, look at it very closely. What, where is this memory? Is it linked with a specific or accumulated series of events? Be open to what it is, as if watching a film or television, be an objective observer.

Then having seen it, being aware of it be completely open to what it was. Honour it, and with love and compassion, send it back into the all where it belongs. You have now released that chakra to be more natural and healthier.

You have been working with the root chakra so far. At this stage you are dealing with the very basic, very fundamental surges of survival. Basic survival, basic life survival. The life there may have been ancient traces but if more recently, your more primitive fear places. Fear places of death, of childhood hunger, the birth process itself of entering the world through the mother's womb, it is a place of hi, very primitive emotions, sexual in nature, the survival of nature. It is of the chakra that you need to formulate the process and become comfortable with it for the same process will be used in all the other Shaw cross.

For the next at least three to six months, one chakra should be worked on at a time period each time, sensing the chakra, opening the chakra, seen or imagining the block, holding it, dissolving it, releasing it.

Somewhere down the road in three to six months there will come a time when instead of visualizing, when you open the shocker there will be a sense of warm energy, that flows away from the shock rock, tickling up the backbone. This will happen before you have sensed the block. This is an indication that the accumulation has thinned a now you were only dealing with the day-to-day events. In a healthy chakra it will not need dealing with on a day-to-day basis. Peer radically perhaps, but not as a discipline practice period

At this time, you will begin repeating, you will notice a repeating of images coming up when you sense the chakra. This is also a good indication that you have finished, and you are just making it up yourself period time to go on.

We have gone into detail because it will be the pattern for all the others. They are to be worked on in either of two ways: one after the other from the tailbone up or tailbone and crown back to the hora, up to the forehead. We suggest that this is also a personal choice, but traditionally the chakras have been opened in a linear fashion from the root to the crown. It is perhaps a safer method, in that, like a tree, the chakras evolved from the bottom to the top, from the primitive to the spiritual. Therefore, to approach the spiritual it may be more practical and wiser to go through the individual's own emotional background and patterns of holding and letting go before working on the spiritual.

However, it does not matter in the end, for each one must be opened if this is a method you want to follow.

Each chakra has of course its own lessons and its own areas of memory, these are easily understood. The root chakra is survival memory and energy. The second chakra or hara is the use of energy. The solar plexus chakra is the consequences of the use of energy, on the environment and the self. The emotion chakra, the heart, is the first stage of the individual noticing themselves as separate from others in a more global sense. Here we realise the dividing line between very base energy of survival, of doing, producing, and the spiritual. The throat chakra is communication and giving to others beyond mere sensing of the heart, the feeling of an expensiveness of the heart. The throat is the giving of healing. The forehead chakra or third eye is the memory of intimacy with all consciousness, the sensitivity of the occult, the psychic ability to realise the union and interconnections of all other essences and beings. Not only within the self, but in all others too. It is an awareness of consciousness of all others. It is a consciousness and a conscience. Of course, the crown, is the link with all spiritual beings and the letting go of the individual into a wider more encompassing experience of life in general.

Each chakra will be opened, each chakra will have blocks which are memories and when each chakra has been dealt with, it is time to move on to the next. When all the chakras have been cleared and opened, there will be a sense of total freedom within the body. This will mean that you have more accessibility to guides, inner voices, the small voice of intuition. It will be easier to trust that what you are feeling is the truth, and not a false guide, not an accumulation of habits or memory from one’s past.

Some of the memories within the chakra will be extremely unpleasant, causing a degree of physical discomfort. This is to be expected and not to be a fearful event. This process is not to be thought of as a meditation in itself, and end in itself, but a tool to clear the body of past karma, and in so deep doing, free the Self to act. There is work there to be done. We will also suggest that at this point with the chakra cleared, there will be an ability to help others, sometimes without them knowing it, how to remain clear in themselves.

At this point, it is possible to visualize others, whoever it is, the other as teacher, the other as neutral, the other as friend, having their own chakras clear and healthy, opening and closing as the body needs energy.

For example, when the other is teacher is an uncomfortable situation when the emotions that arise are our very base emotions, such as a threat of survival, this is the basis of much aggression. Visualizing that person as clear in their root chakra, opened in that area, energy rising up through that area, from deep within the earth, will facilitate that person seeing you more clearly as not being the issue at all, but their own inner unresolved conflicts. It is something to think about. Are there questions?

Julia: No

River: This process is a process that two people may help each other with, for the ability to sense another's memory is equally valid. Sitting opposite from each other, two people may travel this road together, working side by side, becoming more attuned and sensitive to each other and adding to their own freedom. Sensing the other’s blocks and watching the movie script that you have in your own mind that you have for them- will allow them another perspective and another way to clear their own memories.

Finally, and fundamentally, chakras open and close, as one moves through life. Sometimes you will require more of one and less of another.  Remaining as much as possible open to all events with energy flowing, not so much from bottom to top or top to bottom but from inner to outer, through all the chakras, at the same time, with an even energy flow. This is the final goal, but not one that should be started until there has been a clearing.

It will be noticed that as each chakra has been cleared, sensations will develop in other parts of the body. Perhaps a knee will begin to give trouble as a chakra is being cleared. This is an indication that the memory is still there. Going to that area after opening the chakra, a new memory can arise. It has been stored there. It is a part of the memory from sometime in the past. The same process holds then for any area that have become uncomfortable or painful in any way during this process.

Energy flows from within to without. But it is also helpful to see energy flowing from bottom to top and down the front through each chakra. There is also a regulatory centre, which remains affected by memory. This is not so much a chakra but is a node of centrality and balance. This is located at the back of the brain, within the cranial structure itself. Not so much in the bone but deeply embedded within the brain itself. It regulates the energy flow, if it is not damaged by blocked chakras, and also unites the body into one whole, balancing physical and spiritual aspects. This too is an area of focus, that can be added a later date when all chakras are open, by intent.  Then the individual can concentrate on this area and see it open and wide, as a cavity perhaps with nothing in it except itself.

By the very fact of concentration and alertness in this area, stimulates its own ability to function. This is true of all the chakras by the very fact of awareness and not so much of intent, although that is certainly part of it, but awareness itself stimulates the area into a healthier growth. It is the same of course with all behavior, for watching behavior absolutely change its behavior, usually for the better.

We think we have covered this well, and it will be easy to put this into a structure as a step-by-step pointer. We see this almost as a manual... Step one, do this, Step 2, do this, not an easy way that is easy for us to do. But we think it will be easy for you to do. Are there further questions?

Julia: No.

River: Peace and harmony in all the ways. We greet you!
