Session Two-Life themes

The channel, Catherine and I settle into her small city apartment. We have committed to meeting once a week for The River until they are finished channeling their books. Catherine takes a moment to shift and wrap a shawl around herself. It is her habit to always hold two large amythyst crystals in her hands, which she turns over and over once in trance. I set up the tape recorder and wait for the River to come through. They always begin with- “Greetings!”.

On the coffee table in front of me are my notes on my last weeks assignment-summarize in about five sentences, the learnings of my life so far. As usual, when I’m face to face with the River, I’m filled with trepidation. They have often told me there is nothing to fear-all that can be revealed is more of who I am. That still scares me.

River: Greetings! Tell us the truth you have seen during the passing of this time of life tell us!

Julia: Right-first all choices will lead to a growth of some kind but a good choice will lead easy and joyously to growth.

River: If you divide this into two parts what do you have?

Julia: All choices will lead to a growth of some kind.

River: And the second part?

Julia: A good choice is easy and has joy.

River: And a bad choice?

Julia: A bad choice will lead to growth of some kind but through pain. Do you like river cooling and the growth of a bad choice is similar or different than the growth of a good choice?

Julia: I think it's different.

River: In what way? We are trying to lead you to understand that change does not happen without pressure uncomfortable feelings or without difficulties good choices sometimes appeared to be bad choices but the stimulus is the same: difficulties, pressure, tension, an uncomfortable Ness. Change does not happen through comfortableness.

This is a human condition and that is one of the reasons choices are difficult. Change is not viewed as a pleasant procedure. Only when one views change in a wider cosmic sense, can one adopt and use change positively by understanding that it is a path to greater awareness. Tell yourself, “I can handle change I can be different”. It is merely an attitudinal change. Next learning that you have gleaned?

Julia: My body is a hologram of the earth. All things are connected.

River: Very good we like this! Third statement?

Julia: Act don't react. Examine reactions and face the self.

River: So how do you reconcile number one with number three  if there is only action… and there is only action. That is the first position of action, then good and evil does not exist within action. Is this not true?

Julia: I think I was referring to action that comes out of old conditions that are no longer useful.

River:  Is that action?

Julia: I think so. (I'm not sure of anything at this point)

River: Surely action is pure in itself. In the present moment and if one is acting in the present moment there are no old conditioning or past experiences. In the present moment there is no good or evil. It has been transformed into action. That is the meaning of action it is without the encumbrance of good or evil, past or future.

You must then work to reconcile one and three for they are opposing views and you have some work to do here on what “evil” means and what “poor choices” mean. We see that you were blocked in what a poor choice is. Fourth statement?

Julia: I have the right to fulfill the needs and direction of my inner self.

River: Good, number five?

Julia: Science is not the means of liberation, true knowledge or healing. Spirit precedes all things. Mind is the creator of the physical.

River: Do you perceive these two as opposites? Science and spirit.

Julia: I think science is a different approach, fragmented.

River: And spirit is whole?

Julia: Yes.

River: Then you view them in some terms as opposites. How can you combine these opposing views, for they are opposing views. One is a circle and the other is a line. How does one combine the circle and line into one whole? What is the transformation needed here, for it is part of everyday process, everyday life, the circle and the line. The mind and the spirit, the logic and emotions, this is the underlying conflict of everyone,  of all action. It is probably one of the most debilitating blocks that the individual can come cross. Not so much in the wider sense, as science versus spirit but more in the sense of: action- inaction, emotional rightness or what I “should do”, logic versus the heart.

There is a way of combining, and you have already touched upon it. It is in the formulation of action. Action that does not have any clouds or limitations on it from the past and future. The formulation of action has a great trust and compassion that action will not harm. It is the belief that action in itself is creative, positive, and has the wellbeing of the Self and all others within it before the action takes place. Therefore, trusting, emptiness, trusting the original self, trusting is the first principle of life. Life is basically good and change is basically good, is part of this process of combining logic and emotion, logic and spirit, the heart.

We would suggest this week you shift your homework into a more personal basis, your journey. You have stepped away from the self you have given us more a sense of some basic laws as you see it. We would like you this week to come up with three statements about how your life, your journey has challenged you. Up until now, what has been the lessons you have learned? Or in the process of learning, up until this moment?

Each individual at birth is given a lesson, if you may, which is very simplistic way of viewing it. It is far more complex than, for example a statement such as, “I will learn how to let go up control of others. I will learn how to act without control”. It is far more complex than this. It involves the agreements some positive, some negative of many kinds of entities, and many kinds of beings. However for simplicity's sake, you can capsulize your life as being one thread of lessons, appearing and disappearing spiraling through your life. It is the theme of your life. What is the theme of your life?

We are causing you to do this because it is fun, and probably helpful at this point since you are at a point within the River of reaching a kind of a decision where the River is let go by all of us.

Therefore this is part of your initiation, and part of your writing the book. The book is between all of us. Therefore,  what are the themes of your life? What do you think the lesson has been that you have chosen before birth?

Julia: Do you want me to answer now?

River: No, we want you to reflect upon it before we meet again. We would suggest you brainstorm, cross out, meditate, fume and frustrate, and come out with a clear statement.

I left the session with some confusion. I thought I would get an “A” on my homework, but in fact I got a “F” and “Incomplete”. I followed their instructions carefully, writing and re-writing my statements, making them more personal for me this time, not general truths about life.
