Chapter 20 Healing Old and Future Anger

This session continues with transcripts from the channeled fellowship called the River. This is a group of beings who gathered to give us teachings about how to heal and evolve. I hope this session about old and future anger is helpful. Please let me know in the comments.

This was a powerful and prescient session because years later, I was invited to work in a pain clinic as a therapist. Through a plant medicine session, who later became a teacher for me also- I learned that my task was not so much to alleviate pain, but to help the patient find meaning in the pain. This is not from an attitude of ‘suck it up buttercup”, but a compassionate view of-given that in this moment your body is having these sensations, can we find a way to go back to the root of the pain?

In my experience, cancer is usually linked with old anger. (See Julia Star’s Blog site https://longboatcounselling.blogspot.com/ for the article about my brush with cancer.)

I find it interesting that the River linked pain and discomfort to not only old anger, but also future expectations. In the psychological world, we call this anticipatory grief, anger or trauma. It is often from the imagining of not what was lost, but potentially what could have been.

The microcosm reflects that macrocosm, and in these times when there is so much pain, distress, confusion, displacement, unnecessary war and violence, we must ask of ourselves and others-what is the root of all this chaos and pain? What is the lesson? How can I take back my personal power and attempt to make some meaning from traumatic events?

I believe we are tasked with creating a new world that will have peace, harmony among nations, preservation of all life forms and the environment and a fair and equitable sharing of resources.  I realize that is a large request, but I believe that is the meaning of all the pain in the personal, relational and geopolitical worlds now. This aspiration starts with our own healing and trauma resolution.

River: Greetings!

Julia: Greetings we have another member with us today, Inge. (Inge is a therapist who works in a body centred way with her patients)

River: Two other members, a dog also. The circle grows wider and wider to all beings, greetings. Do you have questions today?

Inge: I would like to understand more about the anger I am feeling.

River: We would suggest this exercise for your anger, and for anger on many levels. First of all, do not attach to this anger as “your anger”. Anger is not yours, it is only yours when you act on the anger. The emotion is facilitated, when you act on it-do you understand?

We suggest that you reach inside to two chakras within your body to find, first of all, past life experiences that are held within your body. You are holding anger experiences of past lives.

We will first deal with past lives, then memories from this life that can be reached and illuminated, changed and transformed in other ways. First however, dealing with anger from past lives which leaves residues in your body that harm both the mental and physical body and the way you view the world and behavior of others towards you.

We suggest that anger has been kept within your lower chakra at the base of the spine. It is a simple matter, once known, how to eliminate, or change and transform this anger. We suggest sitting quietly late at night, for you preferably after 10:00 when your energies are such that you are most in tune with this part of the body. This is accord with your body type.

After relaxing, quietly sense your root chakra, and call up images, first of all of what anger is for you. Connect with a recent anger, if this helps bring up anger within you. Then take this anger, this feeling of anger, sink it within this chakra and wait. Images, pictures and memories will flood up within your mind, seemingly almost a fantasy, a dream, chaotic states, one thing onto another.

Do not be shocked or alarmed, allow them to flow, deeper and deeper into this area, until some end has arrived in the chakra. Stay there, call up the picture, into particulars, if you want, think of it as a film and slow it down until you can see clearly each picture, each frame. Run it through once, stop it when it seems as if you have run out, or you have gone into a new frame and then repeat. Do you like as much as possible. Be that experience, be that chaotic anger experience. Then step back, bless it and release it as understood, dealt with and loved.

Remember those three steps. You have understood, you have acted and you have accepted with compassion. Only in this way with these three steps, is it possible to release the cellular memory of past experiences that are in your body and are held there as almost like a veil, through which you view or experience this lifetime. Do you understand so far?

Inge: Yes...

River: We would suggest then working on the chakra in this area and in your forehead, for you this is also where you hold anger, in a deep cellular way. In two ways, past lives and this life. The root chakra is mostly a holding anger from past lives. It is here, in your forehead that you hold both.

We do not suggest that you work on both chakras at one time, work on one or the other at a time.

It is a little different dealing with anger from this life's experiences and intent. First of all, we will suggest that you have not built up defences for yourself against the anger you feel of those around you. In other words, your aura is too permeable and the anger of others is penetrating and influencing you. You probably already know how to develop defences and we suggest that you work with these.

You can imagine defences such as a barrier, a light, any form that seems appropriate for you. The method does not matter, only the intent and the awareness. If you intend to be protected, that you are protected. The forms are mere reminders. For example, walking down the street, surround yourself with some light, some music, some colour, some intent, that you yourself are centred in your own compassion, understanding and action. And that from this protected place, you joyfully move through the world.

Centred NOW without past and future, you are. Whatever form you decide- is up to you. However, we do suggest that you develop some protection, some armor if you will, although we do not like the word, armor, because you are in the world, you are of the world. The more you are permeable in and out the better it is.

However, returning to this chakra, you have now learned how to eliminate and release past anger and past lives. You will find within the chakra that you have become very open to holding memory and holding experience, holding the past and holding the future. How do you eliminate these memories and held expectations?

We suggest a possible exercise, which is to view backwards one event of disturbing anger and uncomfortable to you in the same way, experience it completely from what seems a beginning to an end. Return to the feeling of anger. When you have completely healthy anger within this area, we would suggest asking yourself the question, “Who is healing this anger?” You will get an answer, ask it again, keep repeating this question until there is nothing more to ask. This is an exercise the River calls following at home. (See previous posting)

You are following the anger back and back and back, until there is nothing answering, then you have come to the root place of your anger within that one experience. Now this is the magic part -make the leap out of past and future and remain below the silence of where the anger is. It is as if you do a dive, underneath the anger, and you lose the identity of you, and the anger. You may experience a sense of great humor, because at that point you are separated from anger and it is like watching, as we have said, a film of people you care about doing rather silly things.

This is a good place to be, it gives you a sense of freedom and possibilities and within that great sense of freedom, potential anger dissipates. Asking the question, following at home, until there are no more questions to ask. Understanding, compassion and action- in this the anger will dissolve.

In some ways, understanding that anger is an external view. It is from the conflict of opposites and your own sense of being out of control. You feel you have no control, you feel you have no way of being yourself within the situation, no sense of having personal direction, or even of having a direction finder. Keeping in mind that it is a matter of opposites conflicting, and your feeling of lack of control that is causing the anger. The question is that with the arising of opposites, there is never any control. That is the meaning of a conflict of opposites.

Your job in this lifetime is to combine the opposites to eliminate the past and future into the wholeness of NOW, by following it home you will reach NOW. It may help you in present behavior with anger, to identify the opposites which are at war within you. Then you can hold them, one in each hand, clearly divide the opposites into two parts. Then letting them go becomes far simpler. You have to remove them out of your emotional state into an understanding state.

It is there in the combining of the opposites that the humor arrives, and you don't need either and you live vibrantly, worshipping the self in the NOW. It is good work that you do, and it is always good to clear out the past. It is also good to clear out the future and that may be a further exercise with anger that may come up with your meditations when you work within these two chakras. You have within there fantasy lives, fantasy intents, fantasy directions of the future, that have become so realistic as to cause memory within the chakras, so real, so solid, that they are damaging you in the now.

You may discover images that can help you, remind you to cut away the past and future anger. Do you have one now?

Inge: An anger?

River: No, we do not ask for you to tell us about an anger, we ask for some image that will help you cut away past and future so that anger is swept away... You do not? What is the most powerful thing that you can do with your body?

Inge: Probably hiking.

River: Where do you feel the hiking?

Inge: In my upper body, in my throat or search centre.

River: Yes... We suggest that you take that feeling of power that you feel in hiking, that feeling of control, and make it a solid feeling to block off the past, to block off the future when anger arises. Return to that feeling of control when hiking. That may be something you can use daily, when you quickly need to return to harmony in the present, to bring up the image of how the body feels in movement. How full of life and potential you are, NOW. It overrides the negative. Is this exercise helpful for you?

Inge: Yes... It will probably be very helpful.

River: We do not suggest that it be a long exercise, 20 to 30 minutes should be ample time. We also suggest writing it down afterwards. In quick form, whatever the anger was, the dissolving of it, the resolution and whatever wisdom you carry out of it. It could be a life book.

Whenever the individual reaches deep within the Soul beyond memory of intent, past and future, there is great power for healing, great power for harmony, the healing is both mental and physical. It requires a great drawing away of opposites into a present that has intensely awareness of now.

The more the intensity is in the now, the more the doing is now, the more the knowing of self is now, whatever it is, whether physical or emotional. The more you know yourself and you are alive and, in your body, and life is flowing. We do not suggest however that anger should not arise. It should arise. It will arise, it is arising but it is the clinging to it, past and future that causes anger to be sickness.

Anger that is in the now, the intensity of the now, is not a kind of anger that you are speaking off. Anger is action! Healthy clean anger is action! Anger from past and future is a deadening and pulling into death. You understand this fully however- are there further questions?

Inge: Yes, there is. I would like to... (Laughs) I can't remember the question brackets.

River: You are too intensely in the now, in this moment, you can't remember anger…or questions (We all laugh)
